Arts on Purpose, a non-profit community arts organization,held a press conference for the official launch of the "Black Male Identity Project" (BMI) on March 24th. BMI is an initiative to combat negative stereotypes of African-American males. The BMI will offer a series of workshops, performances, celebrations and exhibitions featuring positive imagery and stories focused on black men. Prominent community leaders spoke at the event including US Congressman Elijah Cummings, Urban Leadership Institute co-founder LaMarr Darnell Shields and Center for Urban Families founder Joe Jones.
